Here we are again.

Manchester United play in the last game of a Premier League
match round knowing victory will put them in a decent position in the table.

Fifth is the prize if they beat West Ham at Old Trafford – or
fourth if they won 9-0.

Importantly, there is a gap above that to Aston Villa and
Manchester City, and another above that to leaders Arsenal.

While it is congested around them – United are in the middle
of a group of 11 clubs separated by five points – Ruben Amorim’s side must
kick-on if they are to make significant progress this season.

After tonight, they go to rock bottom Wolves and then host
badly out of form Bournemouth, so there really is no excuse to slip up.

But Ruben Amorim knows blew a similar chance against Everton
last week, losing against a side reduced to 10 men after 13 minutes.

Understandably, he doesn’t want to look too far ahead.

“This is the start of a busy month with a lot of games and
opportunities to continue our progress,” he says in his programme notes for
tonight’s match.

“But it is important we focus only on the performance
tonight and do not look too far ahead.”

He doesn’t mention the Everton game.
