Sexual assault lawsuit dropped against Conor McGregor

A lawsuit against UFC superstar Conor McGregor over sexual assault allegations from 2023 has been dropped.

A new court filing made public on Tuesday revealed that the unnamed accuser (going by Jane Doe) gave notice that the lawsuit was being “voluntarily dismissed with prejudice,” which means the accuser cannot refile the same claim at a later date. The court accepted the dismissal and the case was officially closed on Wednesday.

The lawsuit initially filed against McGregor accused the former two-division UFC champion of assaulting a woman in a bathroom at a Miami Heat game during the NBA Finals.

Police investigated the matter after the allegations were first made but no criminal charges were ever filed against McGregor. He always vehemently denied the allegations.

“After a thorough investigation at the time, the State’s Attorney concluded that there was no case to pursue,” McGregor’s attorney Barbara Llanes said after the lawsuit was initially filed back in January. “Almost two years, and at least three lawyers later, the plaintiff has a new false story. We are confident that this case too will be dismissed.”

Now 11 months later, that case has officially been dismissed.

McGregor was found liable in a separate case brought against the fighter in his native Ireland over an alleged sexual assault that occurred back in 2018. While McGregor maintained his innocence, a jury ultimately found him liable and he was ordered to pay damages totaling £206,000 ($271,742.84) to the victim along with attorney fees.

Recognized as one of the biggest combat sports athletes on the planet, McGregor hasn’t fought since 2021 when he suffered a gruesome broken leg in a trilogy against Dustin Poirier. More recently, McGregor has gotten back into training full time with the hope that he’ll make his return to action at the UFC White House card planned for June 2026.
