Love Actually star surprises airport arrivals as she recreates iconic movie scene

Martine McCutcheon paid tribute to Love Actually’s famous opening scene as she welcomed arrivals at Stansted airport.

Martine McCutcheon was seen recreating Love Actually’s famous airport scene by helping to reunite families at a major travel hub. The beloved actress joined a special welcome party at London’s Stansted Airport. Wrapped up in a cosy jumper and burgundy coat, she handed out hot seasonal drinks whilst witnessing heartwarming reunions as relatives and friends touched down from across the globe.

The heartening project was organised by Costa Coffee to bring Christmas cheer to those reconnecting and to honour precious moments of togetherness during the festive period. Research by the company involving 5,000 Christmas-celebrating adults revealed that almost half (47%) find their mood boosted by time spent with cherished ones.

“I’ve loved spreading a little festive cheer today,” she said. “Watching people light up the moment they see someone they’ve missed is truly magical.”

She added: “There’s a real sense of anticipation and gratitude in those first reunions that feels so unique to this time of year. It’s been a joy to witness those memories being made right in front of us.”

Almost half of Britons journey to see loved ones during Christmas, travelling an average distance of 164 miles, with 82% using cars whilst others choose trains (23%) or flights (14%).

Nine in 10 participants say the festive season provides the perfect chance to reconnect with those closest to them, with over six in 10 of those polled via OnePoll.com believing Christmas centres more on human bonds than festivities.

The study found that taking winter strolls (39%), gathering in coffee shops (27%), and enjoying festive films together (40%) were the most popular ways individuals liked to spend quality time with one another.

Viewing beloved classics such as Home Alone, Elf, and Love Actually also became part of yearly customs.

A Costa Coffee spokesperson commented: “The joy of the season is in those first moments of reunion, when the people we’ve missed most finally come together.

“Whether it’s a shared smile at arrivals or a quiet coffee together, these connections create lasting memories.

“Being there to support these moments, and the holiday rituals that come with them, however big or small, is what makes this time of year so special.”
