Arne Slot reaction — ‘A sense of unbelief’ from Liverpool manager after latest dropped points

Arne Slot knows nothing’s coming easy for Liverpool this season, and that’s starting to feel proverbial after the Reds threw aside 2-0 and 3-2 leads in a 3-3 draw with Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday.

That makes it two draws in four days against newly-promoted sides for the defending champions.

Slot’s men had been held into the second half, but Hugo Ekitike remedied that with two quick goals right after the break.

A funny thing happened on the way to a comfortable win, however, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted a controversially-awarded penalty and Anton Stach made it 2-2 late in Beeston.

Fortunately for Slot, Dominik Szoboszlai continued to deliver a Liverpool player of the year campaign with an 80th minute answer. Unfortunately for Slot, Ao Tanaka had an answer in stoppage time.

How did Slot see things?

Arne Slot reaction — Liverpool manager speaks after Reds toss aside 2-0, 3-2 leads at Leeds

How do you feel? “A sense of unbelief. I think we played quite well to very well in large parts of the game. I don’t think we conceded a chance until we made a foul which is not even a chance and they get a penalty through VAR intervention. 2-1 and then the first chance they have is 2-2. We go up and then you think you’ve done enough to win the game but then a set piece.”

“It’s not about me. It’s about us, about the fans, about the players. To concede a set piece again, I think it’s 10 or 11 this season, you can’t be higher on the table than us. To go away at 3-3, I don’t think that’s what we deserve.”

“We concede goals without the other team having a chance. It’s so difficult to play a game of football if you don’t concede a chance and one goes in. We can only look at ourselves because we are the ones who are doing it. That’s the situation.”
