Will Alabama Make CFP? Experts, Fans Sound Off on Bracket Scenarios After Loss to UGA

The No. 9 Alabama Crimson Tide fell 28-7 to the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta in the SEC Championship on Saturday after being shut out through three quarters.

Alabama’s Ty Simpson threw for 212 yards with one touchdown and one interception while completing 49 percent of his passes, connecting with Germie Bernard on the team’s lone score of the game as Bama fell to 10-3.

The Crimson Tide were held scoreless in the first half as Georgia took a 14-0 lead and kept Alabama out of the end zone until the fourth quarter. Georgia added another touchdown in the fourth to extend its three-touchdown lead and seal the victory.

Georgia’s Gunner Stockton threw for 156 yards and three touchdowns as UGA improved to 12-1 with its second straight SEC Championship win.

Experts and fans weighed in on Alabama’s playoff hopes after the Crimson Tide’s lopsided loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship on Saturday.

After Alabama rose one spot in the latest CFP ranking over Notre Dame with its 27-20 win over Auburn, its position in the playoffs could be in jeopardy after a near-shutout loss to Georgia.

The biggest benefit the Crimson Tide have is their early-season win over Georgia, handing the Bulldogs their only loss with a 24-21 victory on Sep. 27 in Athens, to give Bama an extra boost in the eyes of the committee.

If the CFP committee decides the loss is significant enough to knock the Crimson Tide down the rankings, Alabama could slide to a bubble position, fighting for the final spot with Notre Dame and Miami.

The College Football Playoff selection show on Dec. 7 will reveal where they officially land in the field.
