Shane Steichen with latest injury update on QB Anthony Richardson

Ahead of the Colts’ Week 14 matchup with Jacksonville, Shane Steichen provided a brief injury update on QB Anthony Richardson.

On Wednesday, ahead of the Indianapolis Colts’ Week 14 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Shane Steichen was asked about the status of quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Richardson remains on injured reserve after sustaining an orbital fracture while warming up prior to a game earlier this season. A pole that was attached to a stretch band snapped and impacted Richardson around his eye.

According to Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan, Steichen said that he is “hopeful” that Richardson can return this season. However, there still isn’t a specific timetable for when he might potentially return.

Steichen added that Richardson is doing some work in the weight room, but he is not doing any field work at this time.

Before putting Richardson back on the field in any capacity, the Colts want to ensure that he has full vision. As of now, Richardson’s injury hasn’t healed enough for him to be medically cleared to return.

A few weeks ago, Steichen did say that if/when Richardson is able to return, he will resume his role as the Colts’ backup quarterback behind Daniel Jones.

Since Richardson was placed on injured reserve, that role has belonged to rookie Riley Leonard.

Richardson has been on injured reserve since Oct. 13th. He appeared in two games this season in Weeks 3 and 5 when the Colts were up big, playing a total of 14 snaps.
