Minnesota Accepts Invitation to Rate Bowl

The University of Minnesota football team has accepted an invitation to compete in the Rate Bowl on Dec. 26, 2025, in Phoenix. The Gophers will face New Mexico at 3:30 p.m. CT at Chase Field on ESPN. This will be the first-ever meeting between Minnesota and New Mexico.

The Rate Bowl will be the 26th all-time bowl game for Minnesota. The Gophers most recently played in the Rate Bowl in 2021 when they beat West Virginia 18-6 on Dec. 28.

Minnesota has won eight straight bowl games dating back to the 2015 Quick Lane Bowl. That is the longest active streak in the nation, the longest in Big Ten history and tied for the fourth longest in college football history.

The Gophers are 6-0 in bowl games under head coach P.J. Fleck, as they posted wins against Virginia Tech (2025 Duke’s Mayo Bowl), Bowling Green (2023 Quick Lane Bowl), Syracuse (2022 Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl), West Virginia (2021 Guaranteed Rate Bowl), Auburn (2020 Outback Bowl) and Georgia Tech (2018 Quick Lane Bowl).

Fleck’s six bowl wins are the most in school history by a coach and his six bowl wins represent 46% of Minnesota’s overall 13 bowl wins as a program.

Since Fleck arrived in Minnesota in 2017, the Gophers have gone 26-4 against non-conference opponents, including bowl games, which at 86.7% is the sixth-best winning percentage in the FBS in that span behind only Georgia (95.0%), Maryland (88.9%), Alabama (88.1%), Penn State (87.9%) and Kentucky (86.8%).

Tickets for the Rate Bowl are on sale now.
