Most A-listers must have at least five to 10 red-carpet looks they’d rather forget, immortalised in the unforgiving pages of the internet. No matter how many Oscars they might acquire, those fashion missteps will still lurk in a shady corner of the public consciousness. The same cannot be said for Tilda Swinton, someone who (at least to my knowledge) has swerved the low-waisted jeans-and-Uggs era of red-carpet shame entirely.
The word chic gets thrown around a lot these days (often by me), but there are a handful of people who truly embody whatever it was Daniel Day-Lewis was losing his marbles over in Phantom Thread, and Swinton is one of them. Her latest head-to-toe Matthieu Blazy moment is a masterclass in unteachable style: proof that sometimes, a Charvet X Chanel shirt and a walkable heel are all you need to commandeer the red carpet.

Long a Chanel poster girl – recently joined by the likes of Ayo Edebiri – Swinton has been sporting fresh-off-the-runway Blazy looks while the rest of us have been looping “Rhythm Is A Dancer” from the spring/summer 2026 show soundtrack. Sadly, we can’t all be Tilda Swinton, no matter how many “How to be Chic” coffee table books we might find under the Christmas tree, but the peachy shirt and statement skirt formula is evidence that with some forethought (and a steamer), we too can channel a little of her spirit.
