Report: Rivers to visit Colts, may come out of retirement

The Indianapolis Colts are bringing eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers in for a visit following Daniel Jones’ season-ending Achilles injury, sources told Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Indianapolis will put Rivers through a workout and could possibly sign him to their practice squad, Garafolo and Rapoport add.

Riley Leonard, who filled in for Jones on Sunday after the latter tore his Achilles, is reportedly expected to start in Week 15. However, the sixth-round rookie out of Notre Dame is dealing with a knee injury, head coach Shane Steichen said Monday.

Anthony Richardson has been sidelined since October after undergoing surgery to repair a broken orbital bone and hasn’t been medically cleared to return. The former fourth overall pick was Jones’ backup for the first five games of the season.

Rivers celebrated his 44th birthday Monday and hasn’t played in the NFL since 2020, when he was the Colts’ starting quarterback. He’s been coaching high school since his retirement.
