NFL Announces Punishment Decision for Eagles Player Before Chargers Game

The Philadelphia Eagles take on the Los Angeles Chargers on “Monday Night Football” in Week 14, and both teams are fighting for their playoff lives.

As both teams gear up for the highly anticipated showdown, the NFL announced its official punishment decision on one Eagles player for his actions during the team’s game against the Chicago Bears last week.

Every week during the NFL season, the league assigns punishments in the form of fines to players who broke the league’s rules the week before. On their official website, the NFL states that they issue these fines “to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity.”

On Saturday, the NFL announced that it’s fining Eagles safety Reed Blankenship $10,250 for unnecessary roughness for using a hip-drop tackle. The incident happened at the 5:14 mark in the first quarter of the game.

The week’s biggest punishment went to Isiah Pacheco of the Kansas City Chiefs for with a $46,371 fine for unnecessary roughness (use of a helmet) during the team’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The good news is that the funds raised from those fines will go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to “support legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game,” according to the NFL.

“Players are notified of violations and may appeal any ruling,” the NFL says in their official rules book. “Cases are heard by appeals officers and former NFL players, Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster or Jordy Nelson, who are jointly appointed and paid by the NFL/NFLPA. The decisions made are final and binding.”
