Report: Star closer Edwin Diaz agrees to deal with Dodgers

The star closer agreed to a deal with the World Series champion Dodgers, Will Sammon of The Athletic reported on Tuesday.
After missing all of 2023 with a torn patellar tendon, Díaz returned to the mound in dominant form the past two seasons. But he was on another level in 2025.
The 31-year-old right-hander carried a 1.63 ERA last season for the New York Mets, recording 28 saves in 31 opportunities and striking out 98 batters in 66.1 innings. For his efforts, Díaz was named the 2025 Trevor Hoffman NL Reliever of the Year.
It marked the second time that he has claimed the NL honour and third time he has been named a Reliever of the Year after winning with the Mets in 2022 and with the Seattle Mariners in 2018.
A three-time all-star, Díaz owns a career 2.82 ERA and 253 saves. Since his debut with Seattle in 2016, he ranks second among all relievers in saves and first in strikeouts.
Díaz became a free agent this off-season after opting out of the final two years of a five-year, $102-million contract he signed with the Mets in 2022.
A third-round pick by the Mariners in 2012, Díaz was traded to New York as part of the package that sent Robinson Canó to the Pacific Northwest in 2018.
He has spent the last six years pitching out of the Mets’ bullpen, helping the club reach the post-season in 2022 and 2024. In those two playoff runs, Díaz allowed three earned runs and six hits in 11.1 innings while striking out 15.
