Blue Jays $45M Pitcher Predicted To Ditch Toronto After Dylan Cease Deal

The Toronto Blue Jays came one run short of the World Series title this season, but the Los Angeles Dodgers took it home in seven games.

As a result, the Blue Jays were very aggressive in free agency to begin the offseason. They added Dylan Cease on a huge deal, but they could lose veteran pitcher Chris Bassitt as a result.

Joey Peterson of Just Baseball recently predicted Bassitt would bolt for a deal with the Milwaukee Brewers this offseason. Bassit is projected to sign a $45 million deal, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic.

“In terms of experience, Bassitt is coming off a year with Toronto in which he threw extremely meaningful innings out of the bullpen in the Blue Jays’ magical run to the World Series,” Peterson wrote. “While he was phased out of the rotation once the calendar turned to October, the Jays found a way to leverage his arm in some very high-leverage situations.

“Durability might be the most appealing aspect of his profile. Bassitt has made at least 30 starts and has thrown at least 170 innings in each of his last four seasons, topping out at 200 innings pitched back in 2023.”

The Brewers could look to trade Freddy Peralta this winter, which would open up a hole in their rotation for Bassitt.

If the Brewers trade Peralta, this idea makes plenty of sense.

Bassitt would be an affordable option for the Brewers to replace Peralta in the short term. He’s consistent and reliable, while being projected to sign for around $20 million per year.
