What Seattle Seahawks are doing is ‘exceedingly rare’ in NFL

After a slow start on Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks kicked into gear in the second half and stomped the Atlanta Falcons 37-9 for yet another blowout victory.

The Seahawks now have an NFL-high five wins by 20-plus points this season. Just three other teams – the Los Angeles Rams (four), the Indianapolis Colts (four) and the Detroit Lions (three) – have more than two such victories this season.

The Seahawks also have a 14-point win, plus two other victories where they led by 13-plus points until a late touchdown by the opponent trimmed the final margin.

And on the other end, Seattle’s three losses have come by a combined nine points.

As a result, the Seahawks have the NFL’s best point differential at plus-161. The only other team even close to Seattle is the NFC West rival Rams, who are right behind at plus-152. No other NFL team has a point differential above plus-110 and no other NFC team has a point differential above plus-90.

“I think you could make an argument that seven of the 10 wins – and this is unheard of in the NFL – seven of their 10 wins have been blowouts,” Mike Salk said Monday during Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk.

“That is exceedingly rare in the NFL,” he added. “It’s why the Seahawks have the best point differential in the league. It’s why they are one of the top teams and top contenders – and why we think that, if everything kind of goes according to plan, that game against L.A. (next week) is going to be for a lot.”

The Seahawks’ plus-161 point differential is the second-best mark in franchise history through the first 13 games of a season, according to Stathead. The best mark belongs to the 2005 NFC champion Seahawks, who were at plus-168 at this stage of the season.

Aside from the 2025 and 2005 Seahawks, just three other teams in franchise history have had a plus-100 point differential through 13 games: The 1984 team (plus-159), the 2013 Super Bowl-winning team (plus-152) and the 2015 team (plus-105).

Former NFL quarterback Brock Huard added that it’s all further evidence that the Seahawks are “absolutely, unequivocally Super Bowl contenders in 2025.”

“Let me be just abundantly clear here now,” Huard said. “We’re 13 games into the season. We’re not four, we’re not eight. … This is a Super Bowl-contending team.”
