Evan Ferguson set to return to Brighton in January, according to reports in Italy

Evan Ferguson’s short loan spell in Rome appears to be coming a premature end, according to reports in Italy on Tuesday.
The well-known publication , has claimed that initial contacts with Brighton have already taken place with Roma over the Republic of Ireland forward’s return to the Premier League in January.
The Italian side have just four games remaining until the winter transfer window opens in January and it is believed that barring any surprises, Ferguson is expected to return to Brighton then, despite joining the club on a season-long loan deal with a €40m option to make it permanent next summer.
These reports have emerged just a few days after Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini failed to confirm that the 21-year-old, who came off the bench shortly after the hour in their 1-0 loss to Cagliari on Sunday, would remain in the Italian capital for the rest of the season.
“Ferguson’s future? I’ve never talked about it, I don’t know if the agent has,” said Gasperini, whose side travel to Celtic in the Europa League on Thursday night.
“I’ll talk about it with the club in January, if necessary. It always happens these days that there’s a lot of talk about players, then maybe one comes in, scores two goals, and changes everything.
“Or maybe he plays two or three high-quality games and the assessments change.
“I think it’s too early: there are so many games that can completely change the strategies.”
The Bettystown native has scored one goal in 14 games in all competitions since joining Roma last summer.
