Broyles Award announces 2025 finalists

The Broyles Award on Tuesday announced the five finalists for the 2025 award, given to the top assistant coach in college football.

The 2025 finalists are:

— Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo
— Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haines
— Miami defensive coordinator Corey Heatherman
— Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia
— Texas Tech defensive coordinator Shiel Wood

Always held in Broyles’s native Arkansas, the Broyles Award ceremony is typically a December event but has been moved to February this year. The 2025 finalists will be celebrated Feb. 12-13, 2026, in Hot Springs, Ark.

Now in its 30th year, the Broyles Award has honored excellence in assistant coaching since 1996. The award is named after College Football Hall of Famer Frank Broyles, who was a backfield coach at Baylor, Florida and Georgia Tech from 1947-56 before becoming a head coach at Missouri in 1957 and going on to a Hall of Fame career at Arkansas from 1958-76, where he won seven Southwest Conference championships and Arkansas’s only national championship. Broyles entered the Hall in 1983 and died in 2017.

Prior winners include future College Football Hall of Famer Kirby Smart, 2025 College Football Playoff head coach Brent Venables, and 2023-24 CFP participant Steve Sarkisian, among others. Al Golden of Notre Dame won the award in 2024.
