Tre Carroll Earns USBWA National Player Of The Week Honors

CINCINNATI — The United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) announced today that Xavier University graduate student Tre Carroll has been named as one of five national Division I players of the week in conjunction with the Oscar Robertson Trophy. The USBWA has expanded its national weekly honors program to now highlight five players each week.

Carroll, who was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, averaged 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in wins over Saint Francis on Dec. 1 and Cincinnati on Dec. 5. He shot 60.5 percent (23-38) from the field for the week.

Carroll scored a collegiate career-high 30 points to go with seven rebounds in the win over Cincinnati on Friday, XU’s sixth win in its last seven meetings against its crosstown rival.

Carroll leads Xavier and ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring at 17.3 ppg. He ranks sixth in the BIG EAST in field goal shooting at 48.6 percent.

Xavier, 7-3, takes a four-game winning streak into its final non-conference game of the season. XU hosts Missouri State on Friday at 7 p.m. before opening BIG EAST play vs. Creighton on Dec. 17 at Cintas Center.
