Trey Benson injury: Arizona Cardinals RB could miss rest of season

If Benson is not activated from injured reserve by Wednesday, he will miss the rest of the season.

Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson is in danger of missing the rest of his season. The Cardinals must make a decision about activating him by Wednesday.

He has been out since Week 4, when he suffered a knee injury and then was placed on injured reserve. He was designated to return from IR on November 19, opening a 21-day window in which he could begin to practice again and in which he must be activated or revert to IR and miss the rest of the season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “there is now a real chance he will not be activated this week.” If he is not activated by Wednesday, he will miss the rest of the season.

After he was designated to return, he was limited participant for three practices. The next week, he was limited on Wednesday but then has not practiced since.

On Monday, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon wouldn’t say whether Benson would be activated or not.

“We’ll see. Not quite sure yet,” he told reporters. “I hope he keeps making progress and turning the corner. I want to see him out there. When he is ready to go, he will go.”

The Cardinals could activate him in hopes that he will be able to play sometime this season, but based on that report from Schefter, it would appear that Benson could be looking at 2026 for a return, just another disappointment for the 2025 season.
