C.J. Stroud walked past Cal McNair after Sunday’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Houston Texans owner was waiting to celebrate with his quarterback; however, Stroud kept moving to greet fans.

It ended a five-game losing streak against Kansas City that included last year’s playoff defeat. The defense stole the show, forcing three turnovers from Patrick Mahomes. Houston dropped its first three games before winning five straight. The stretch includes victories over Buffalo, Indianapolis and Kansas City in consecutive weeks.

The Texans defense has forced at least one takeaway and recorded at least one sack in 11 games, tied for most in the NFL. Sunday marked the 11th time they’ve kept an opponent below 20 points, which is also a league-high.

C.J. Stroud struggled through stretches of the game, particularly in the third quarter when nothing worked. Houston went three-and-out repeatedly after halftime. However, when the Chiefs failed on a fourth-down gamble late, the quarterback got the ball in favorable field position and capitalized.

Texans running back Dare Ogunbowale capped the drive with a short scoring run that put the game away.

Houston (8-5) trails Jacksonville (9-4) by one game in the AFC South. The Texans will aim to make it six straight victories on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals (3-10).
