Vince Staples Jokes Clippers Should Get Tree Mascot Amid …

Vince Staples has poked fun at the Los Angeles Clippers in regards to a recent lawsuit involving its star small forward Kawhi Leonard.

Back in September, Leonard was accused of signing a $28 million endorsement deal for a “no-show job” with tree-planting company Aspiration.

The allegations were first detailed on an episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out, in which the sports journalist spoke about the documents he reviewed that led him to believe that Leonard and the Clippers were engaging in shady practices to get him on board the team.

In a series of quick questions with Jesse Thom, which can be seen in the video above, Staples was asked what would be his suggestion for the next mascot for the Clippers, replacing Chuck the Condor.

“The Clippers mascot thing is a little bit tricky,” he replied. “Right now, I would personally do a tree. It would be a palm tree or red wood or whatever kind of tree that Kawhi’s under investigation for. ‘Cause you got to lean in, and make that brand. … Then, you know, I would have him plant trees.”

It’s not the first time the rapper has shared his opinion on the matter. Last month, during an episode of the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Staples spoke about how he was part of a recruiting pitch for Leonard.

“They was doing the most, man,” he said, referring to the team’s front office. “They really wanted him to come to the team, and I think it was a good plan.”

“They should have planted them trees, bro. Everything would have been different. Somebody could have planted them trees,” he continued. “They could have went down to Home Depot got them some joints. Twenty dollars a piece, 50 dollars a piece. Put them trees in the ground, and everything would’ve went away.”

Torre later reposted the clip and added: “He is, in fact, not wrong.”
