Northern Lights: These States May Observe Aurora Borealis Friday

Nearly a dozen states across the northern U.S. may have an opportunity to observe the northern lights on Friday, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

NOAA forecast a Kp index of four on a scale of nine for Friday night, suggesting the northern lights will be “brighter” and more active for those in the right areas.
Less active auroral activity is expected through the weekend, according to NOAA’s three-day forecast, with a maximum Kp index of just over three and two forecast for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Where Will The Northern Lights Be Visible Friday?
Alaska and northern Canada will have the highest chance of seeing aurora borealis, according to NOAA’s view line. A lesser, yet still possible opportunity is expected in parts of Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Maine. (See view line below.)
