Sunderland and Newcastle are teams built on loyalty and passion, with supporters who create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else.
Fan group This Is Wearside is pulling out all the stops to make its flag display the “most ambitious one yet” ahead of the derby on Sunday.
“I mean, without the volunteers, without the fans, we wouldn’t exist, it’s as simple as that,” said Daniel Stokell, a co-founder of This Is Wearside.
The group says it was created for fans to be the 12th man for the Black Cats, to get them behind the team.
