Exclusive: West Ham to Make Bid for ‘Unstoppable’ Striker as Transfer Decision Made

West Ham United are stepping up their interest in Norwich striker Josh Sargent as the January transfer window looms, GIVEMESPORT sources understand.

Hammers chief Nuno Espirito Santo has held transfer talks with club chairman David Sullivan, and American Sargent fits the bill for what they are looking for next month.

The club’s preference is for a centre forward with a strong physical presence and a player with experience of English football, whether that be at Premier League or Championship level.

Sargent, 25, is valued at around £17.5 million by Norwich, who are aware that West Ham have been keeping tabs on their player. The Hammers are looking to take it a step forward with a bid in the new year.

Despite a recent upturn in results, the struggling Premier League side is stuck in the bottom three and two points adrift of safety. Sargent is currently injured, but it is not thought to be long-term, and is one of a number of players being considered as West Ham plot their moves for the transfer window.

A centre forward is top priority with veteran Callum Wilson leading the line at 34 years old. Fellow striker Niclas Fullkrug wants out of West Ham and his agent went public in saying so last month.

German outfit Wolfsburg have shown an interest, but the Hammers will only sell if they can find a replacement or strike a deal that makes financial sense to help them recoup at least some of the £27.5 million they blew on Fullkrug 18 months ago.

West Ham Want Striker With English Experience

The Germany international has scored only three goals for them since signing in the summer of 2024.

West Ham have failed in a series of attempts to bring untried strikers to English football, most notably with Gianluca Scamacca and Sebastien Haller in recent seasons. That is why they are targeting a player who has proven ability in this country.

Sargent, who has been described as ‘unstoppable’, enjoyed a blistering start to the season, scoring six goals before the end of August. He has scored only once since then, but is still viewed as a viable option for West Ham as they battle to claw themselves away from the foot of the table.

West Ham are at home to in-form Aston Villa this weekend, having lost only once in their last six games. That is followed by a trip to Manchester City before the hectic Christmas fixture period kicks in.
