Liverpool legend Ian Rush placed in intensive care after struggling to breathe

Liverpool legend Ian Rush spent 48 hours in intensive care after a ‘superflu’ outbreak but is recovering well, having suffered with breathing difficulties at his home. The 64-year-old, one of Wales’ greatest-ever players, was taken to Countess of Chester Hospital last week and remains at the facility.
The Daily Mail claim that Rush began to feel unwell at home and, within minutes, was taken to the hospital and placed into the ICU, where he was given treatment. He has responded well and those close to him claim that Rush is “in good spirits”, he is expected to return home for Christmas.
Rush has been among many in the UK to be affected by the ‘superflu’ as some schools have been forced to close, hospitals have declared critical incidents, and the return of face mask rules has been proposed.
Rush would have been expected to attend Liverpool’s match with Brighton at Anfield on Saturday, but instead he continues to be monitored at hospital.
He is one of the finest British strikers of all time, Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorer with 346 goals, and remains an ambassador at the Merseyside club. He was also Wales’ top scorer with 28 strikes before his record was broken by Gareth Bale in 2018.
Rush played a vital role in Liverpool’s dominance in the 1980s, across two spells at the club, either side of a move to Serie A giant Juventus.
He is not in attendance at Anfield for the visit of Brighton, where Mohamed Salah starts on the bench in a return to the squad following a public feud breaking out between the forward and Liverpool.
Rush is a “good friend” of Salah and before the Egyptian penned a new contract in April, discussed the prospect of his long-standing record being broken.
“I’m a great believer that records are there to be broken, but you’ve gotta be winning trophies,” Rush said. “I’m a good friend of Mohamed as well, so if you do it, make sure you’re winning trophies!
“It’ll probably be a three-year [contract needed to break his record]. Nobody knows what’s gonna happen, at the moment he’s enjoying playing.
“He’s playing the best in the world at the moment, so let’s enjoy him and see what happens at the end of the season.”
