Ortiz Records Personal-Best Mile Time at Seahawk Shootout

Staten Island, NY – In the final race of 2025 for the Hofstra men’s indoor track & field team, John Ortiz set a new personal-best time in the Mile at the Seahawk Shootout at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
 
Running in his second meet of the indoor season, Ortiz crossed the finish line of the men’s Mile in a time of 4:20.40 to place third out of 63 competitors. Ortiz’s performance in Staten Island narrowly edged his previous personal-best time of 4:22.99 from the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on December 6.
 
Matthew Laudicina also recorded a top 10 finish and a PR time on Friday in the 1000m Run, clocking in at 2:34.86 to finish seventh, topping his previous best time of 2:35.55 from the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational on December 6. Meanwhile, William Thu secured the best individual finish on the men’s side by placing second in the 3000m Run with a time of 8:20.32, and Callum Beach placed eighth with a time of 8:42.77 in the event.
 
Competing for the Pride in the other individual running events were Steiger Devil (7.24) in the 60m Dash, Sameer Grewal (36.73), Arnario Briggs-Garcia (36.74), and Cade Jaipaul (40.49) in the 300m Run. In the 4x200m Relay, Briggs-Garcia, Devil, Laudicina, and Grewal crossed the line at 1:33.84.
 
After celebrating the New Year, the Hofstra men will be back in competition at the Metropolitan Indoor Championship on January 30.
