WWE Doesn’t Care About Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre has been in and around WWE’s upper midcard and main event scene ever since his main roster return in 2019, and in that time he has won three world titles, main evented WrestleMania, and feuded with many of WWE’s top stars. In 2024, McIntyre had a better year than anyone under a highly entertaining, rich-in-depth heel character that looked to set him up for huge things in 2025… only for the complete opposite to occur. What has been more evident than anything over the last year is that WWE does not care for Drew McIntyre, and major changes are needed in order for him to re-find his good form and climb back to the top.

Drew McIntyre’s 2025 Has Seen Him Drop Down WWE’s Card

  • Fans were in uproar over Drew McIntyre’s feud with Damian Priest.
  • McIntyre challenged for the United States Title at Backlash.
  • At SummerSlam, McIntyre formed an alliance with Logan Paul.

On the back of a sensational 2024 in which Drew McIntyre’s heel turn revitalised his career, winning (albeit briefly) the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania before engaging in the feud of the year with CM Punk, fans had high hopes for McIntyre in 2025, with many expecting him either in the world title picture for WrestleMania or at least in a marquee match with the likes of Roman Reigns, John Cena, or Cody Rhodes. Instead, McIntyre was faced up with Damian Priest, who too had dropped a long way from the main event talent he was midway through 2024. Fans were furious about this decision, as was McIntyre himself, per an interview with the Daily Star.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t p****d off at not being in one of the title matches after the 2024 I had.”

How the World Heavyweight Championship Surpassed the WWE Title in 2025

2025 has seen the World Heavyweight Championship grow in prestige while the WWE Title has fallen from grace.

McIntyre’s feud Priest then dragged on for way too long, he got involved in the United States Title division briefly with a title challenge at Backlash (and with all due respect to the gold, it was below McIntyre at that point in time) and then struck some issues with Randy Orton. Unfortunately for McIntyre, most of this stop-start feud with Orton led to him being left in the ring courtesy of an RKO. To further devalue McIntyre’s heel character, he started an alliance with Logan Paul which has continued through the rest of 2024, with this contradicting his entire personality as a heel. A feud with Jelly Roll and Randy Orton took place through the summer, with McIntyre feeling like the least important part of this story.

Drew McIntyre Has Been Booked Like A Chump Against Cody Rhodes

  • McIntyre’s last few months have seen him lose his edge as a heel in WWE.
  • McIntyre’s feuds with Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes have lacked any quality.
  • McIntyre keeps failing at winning the World Heavyweight Title and WWE Title.

The most recent few months of Drew McIntyre’s WWE career have been very telling indeed. Drew McIntyre’s fortunes seemed to be turning as he found himself back in the main event scene on SmackDown, taking on Cody Rhodes for the WWE Title. However, McIntyre’s luck would see that things haven’t improved at all. This storyline has dragged on and on, McIntyre has been undermined and embarrassed multiple times by both referees and management, and he hasn’t been given the time to create any sort of magic on the mic like he did in his feud with CM Punk. For how long this feud has dragged, every part of it has felt rushed and lacking.

LA Knight’s WWE Career Is Over

LA Knight suffered a brutal beatdown on WWE RAW, leaving fans to question whether he has a future in WWE.

McIntyre’s matches with Rhodes have been weak, and fans haven’t bought a single time the possibility of his actually winning the WWE Championship. Rhodes is clearly the bigger star in WWE’s eyes, and McIntyre is clearly not at the level of a star in WWE’s eyes to even score a short-term WWE Title reign in order to play some hot-potato with Rhodes to make things the smallest bit intriguing and different.

WWE Cares More About Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Seth Rollins And More

  • Drew McIntyre is way down the pecking order compared to WWE’s other stars.
  • McIntyre deserves way more respect after his strong work over the last several years.
  • Unless changes occur, McIntyre’s remaining time in WWE may be a dud.

The sorry truth of the matter is that WWE’s priorities in the men’s division lie with bigger stars such as Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, and CM Punk, along with upcoming stars like Bron Breakker. McIntyre is now so far down the pecking order that it is hard to see him ever truly mixing it up with the WrestleMania main event and winning world titles again.

WWE’s Tag Team Division Needs This Major Change

There’s one way to truly help the top of WWE’s tag team roster.

McIntyre, like many before him, will likely settle into the role of putting others over, giving new world champions a big win, and being unable to earn himself consideration from Triple H as one of WWE’s biggest stars. McIntyre is beyond talented, and perhaps something like a babyface turn could allow fans to rally behind him and force or push, but his current direction doesn’t look promising at all.
