Saka happy to be on right side of late drama | Interview | News

Having been on the wrong side of late goals in recent matches, Bukayo Saka was relieved to be on the other end as we won a dramatic game against Wolves 2-1.

While the two goals may have been netted by Wolves players, Bukayo more than played his part in both as his corner was inadvertently nudged over his own line by Sam Johnstone, before another dangerous delivery tempted Yerson Mosquera to nod past the goalkeeper in the 94th minute.

We couldn’t quite escape the late drama as we nearly let two precious points slip when Tolu Arokodare had equalised earlier in stoppage-time, but Bukayo heaped praise on his teammates for not accepting their fate and going again to rescue the victory.

On his match-winning moment, he said: “It was an amazing feeling to be fair. I didn’t know why Gabby wasn’t celebrating, I thought he scored, but I think it was an own goal. Still, it was an amazing feeling to win in the last minute. It’s been us that have conceded in the last minute on a few occasions this season, so tonight it’s nice that we’re on the other side of it.

“That shows the character that we have and that we’re not going to give up to the end. Also, we’re at the Emirates and we need to make teams understand that coming here is going to be tough. I think we’ve shown that this season and we showed that again tonight.

“Obviously I’m happy with the three points, but a bit disappointed with how we played and how the outcome was almost us dropping points, but we didn’t, so let’s take the points and move forward.”

Highlights: Arsenal 2-1 Wolves

After an ending like that, everyone of a red and white persuasion will be keen to catch their breath again, and we now have a rare seven-day period without a game, allowing us to recover and regroup ahead of a trip to Everton.

Bukayo can’t wait, adding: “It’s going to be nice, It’s been a really, really busy schedule. Credit to all the boys and the staff because we’ve been so intense, but we’ve been on it and we’ve had some amazing results.

“It’s nice that we have a bit of a break, but it’s not time to relax, it’s just a time to reset a bit and then go again next week in the training sessions and be ready for Everton.”
