Cason R. “Dick” Whitehurst Obituary | Reedsburg, WI

Cason R. “Dick” Whitehurst, age 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at his home in Ironton, surrounded by his family following a brave battle with cancer.  He was born on August 1, 1949, in Norfolk, VA, the son of Richard Cason and Rosemary (Gardner) Whitehurst.

Dick’s family moved to Wonewoc when he was an infant, and he lived in the Reedsburg and surrounding area most of his life.  On October 18, 1969, Dick was united in marriage to Joan R. Jensen.  This marriage was blessed with three children, Patrick, Tressa and Cason (Casey).

He was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg.

Dick was an outgoing person who was often described as the life of the party and became an instant friend to all who met him. His social calendar revolved around his family.  He was a wonderful husband; a devoted father and he cherished his 11 grandchildren. He rarely missed any of their events. He was also an avid golfer and sports fan.  Dick loved life and lived it with joy and gratitude.

We mourn his passing because we will miss him so, but we will cherish all the great memories. We rejoice that he is in a better place, free of pain and suffering, in Heaven with his Lord and Savior.

Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan; children: Patrick (Anna Peyton) Whitehurst of Minturn, CO, Tressa (Matthew) Bauer of Reedsburg, Cason “Casey” (Gretchen) Whitehurst of Wisconsin Dells; grandchildren: Elijah (Peyton) Bauer, Lydia Bauer, Isaiah Bauer, Isabel Bauer, Treyton Whitehurst, Clara Bauer, Cooper Whitehurst, Adelind Whitehurst, Evelyn Bauer, Emmaline Whitehurst and Savanna Whitehurst; brother, Donald (Rosanna Armson) Whitehurst of Minneapolis; sister, Alice (Gary) Antonetti of Evansville; many nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service for Dick Whitehurst will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 11 AM in St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Reedsburg, with Pastor Paul Crolius officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church. Private family burial will take place in Resting Green Cemetery, Ironton.

The Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
