Are Mindy and Alfie a ‘Thing’ in ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5? Ashley Park Weighs In

The “Emily in Paris” Season 5 trailer finds Emily Cooper lucky in love in Rome, and leaves viewers wondering if her bestie Mindy Chen is also exploring a new, albeit unexpected, romance in the Eternal City.
Early on in the trailer, Mindy, played by Ashley Park, can be seen dining out with Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), Emily’s ex. Then things appear to heat up as the pair dances and almost locks lips later on in the short clip.

While interviewing stars Park and Lily Collins in Venice for a segment that airs on Dec. 15, TODAY lifestyle contributor Jill Martin asked about what’s going on between Alfie and Mindy, who broke up with her boyfriend Nicolas (Paul Forman) at the end of Season 4.
“Ashley, it looks like in the trailer you’re about to make out with him,” Martin noted during their chat.
“What made you think we were about to make out?” Park asked mischievously.
“It was very close,” Martin replied.
Viewers will have to wait until Season 5 premieres on Netflix on Dec. 18 to find out if Mindy and Alfie are romantically involved — — and how Emily would react to such a pairing. But Park offered up the following teaser in the meantime:
“I also think they have a great friendship, and that’s what we see,” she said, adding that the pair was dancing, so it was natural that they’d be physically close together.
“There’s heat,” Collins, who plays Emily, added.
“Hot dancing,” Park said.
What Happened Between Emily and Alfie?
Alfie first appeared in Season 2 of “Emily in Paris” when he met Emily during a French class. The pair didn’t bond right away, but they soon found common ground over being expats in Paris (Alfie is from London).
Romance quickly blossomed, and the couple seemed to really be hitting it off. Soon, they had to decide whether they were up for a long-distance romance when Alfie announced that he had to return to London for work.
Alfie ended up staying in Paris when he found work with Antoine (William Abadie). Since his relationship with Emily was a bit rocky, he didn’t tell her he was staying right away.
Emily and Alfie gave things another go but ended up breaking up at the end of Season 3 after Camille (Camille Razat) and Gabriel’s (Lucas Bravo) failed wedding.
During the ceremony, Camille said she couldn’t marry Gabriel because he’s in love with Emily. It was too much for Alfie to handle and he said he didn’t want to be Emily’s second choice.
In Season 4, Emily and Alfie considered getting back together but she ended up pursuing a relationship with Gabriel. When they broke up, Emily ran into Alfie and was devastated to hear that he had a new girlfriend. Later on, Emily started dating an Italian man named Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini).
