Flood watch issued for Kauai, Niihau and Oahu this weekend

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the islands of Kauai, Niihau and Oahu as a strong front approaches from the northwest.

Your First Alert Weather Team has also declared First Alert Weather Days for those islands, as well as Maui County, for Sunday and Monday.

The flood watch will be in effect from late Saturday night through late Monday night, the National Weather Service said.

The chance for locally heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms will increase as the front approaches Saturday and then stalls over the western end of the state Sunday and Monday.

The food watch means that conditions will be present that could trigger flooding. You should be prepared to take quick action if a flash flood warning is issued or flooding occurs in your area.

Flood prone roads and other low-lying areas may be closed because of elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Urban areas may also get more significant flooding due to rapid runoff.
