Bills fans celebrate as their Super Bowl record will continue

The Buffalo Bills of the early 1990s went to four consecutive Super Bowls. No other team in NFL history has done that and that will remain true heading into the next few seasons. The Kansas City Chiefs, coming off three consecutive Super Bowls, have been eliminated from the playoffs in 2025.

The Chiefs needed four different outcomes to be eliminated on Sunday. They needed to lose while the Bills, Jaguars, and Texans all needed to win. Gardner Minshew came in for an injured Patrick Mahomes on the final drive, throwing a clinching interception.

The Chiefs join the 1970s Miami Dolphins and the 2010s New England Patriots as the only teams to with three straight AFC Championships. All three of those teams went 2-1 in their three trips.

The Bills famously lost all four of their Super Bowl appearances in the early 1990s, something that has haunted Buffalonians since. But that team has also been lauded for their four straight Super Bowls appearances, clawing their way back each time despite the disappointment.

In 1994, the Bills did not make the playoff to end their streak at four. An up and down year left them their first losing record since 1987. The Chiefs made the postseason at 9-7 that year, so the Bills weren’t eliminated until very late in December.
