On weekday mornings, Nevada Sports Net will recap three big headlines of the day in its Morning Download. Read below for today’s topics.

1. Nevada alum Nate Burleson reportedly could be out on CBS Mornings

The New York Post reported this week CBS Mornings co-host Tony Dokoupil has been tapped as CBS Evening News’ next anchor, which could lead to a shakeup of CBS’s morning show, which is co-hosted by Dokoupil, Gayle King and Nate Burleson, the former Nevada Wolf Pack football star who went on to a successful NFL and media career. Burleson has been one of CBS Mornings’ three co-hosts since 2021. “A source close to the situation said ‘CBS Mornings’ will likely be overhauled, which may mean that King and Burleson will no longer be on the show,” The New York Post reported. “A timeline for the revamp, however, hasn’t been finalized and is not expected in the near term.” Burleson has been one of Paramount’s stars in recent years, as the Emmy Award winner also co-hosts The NFL Today, Hollywood Squares and Nickelodeon’s NFL Slimetime. The Wolf Pack Hall of Famer played in the NFL from 2003-13 and has two sons on the Nevada football team, Nate II and Nehemiah.

2. Spanish Springs’ Carson McCusker released by MLB’s Twins

Spanish Springs High alum Carson McCusker, who made his MLB debut last year for the Minnesota Twins, has asked for and received his release from the team with the intention of playing in Asia in 2026. McCusker appeared in 16 MLB games last season, hitting .172 with a .372 OPS. He had five hits in 20 at-bats, striking out 16 times with a walk. The 6-foot-8, 250-pound outfielder has hit .265 with 55 homers in 275 minor-league games after beginning his pro career in the independent league, where he thrived for 2.5 seasons after being undrafted out of Oklahoma State. The Twins signed him to a minor-league contract in the middle of the 2023 season before he rose to the major-league level last year.

3. Ex-Raider Henry Ruggs III moved to Carson prison

Henry Ruggs III, the Raiders’ former first-round draft pick, has been transferred to a medium-security prison in Carson, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. Ruggs was moved to the Northern Nevada Correctional Center on Monday with the department telling the Review-Journal, “in general, an offender who commits infractions while at a lower-level custody, depending on the nature and severity, could be reverted back to a higher level of custody.” Since November 2024, Ruggs had been held at Las Vegas’ Casa Grande Transitional Housing, a dormitory-style facility for nonviolent offenders. In August 2023, Ruggs was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison after driving his Chevrolet Corvette Stingray into the SUV of Tina Tintor, killing her and her dog. He was estimated to be driving at 156 miles per hour with a blood-alcohol level of 0.16, double the legal limit. Ruggs, who will be eligible for parole in August 2026, played 20 games for the Raiders from 2020-21, catching 50 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns after being the 12th pick of the 2020 draft out of Alabama.
