Cowboys Reflect On George Pickens ‘Answering The Call’ After Controversy

Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens apparently stepped inside The Star on Monday after his poor Thursday night performance in Detroit, knowing he had to get back down to business.
After all the criticism and noise of his performance in the loss to the Lions, Pickens saw verbal barbs coming from every direction, despite it being the first time this season that he had a “bad” game.

Given that Pickens is an energy guy on the field – he’s stated that when he makes a play, he likes to get the crowd amped up – it would only be natural for No. 3 to want to send a little message to his critics this week, right?
Well, head coach Brian Schottenheimer doesn’t think George has a chip on his shoulder entering Week 15. Ans he’s also praising how the receiver has been at practice this week.
“I don’t know about that,” Schottenheimer said on 105.3 The Fan. “I think George has been great, and I don’t think anybody ever questioned that George would be great this week. George’s having an incredible season. …

“Certainly, we didn’t get the desired effect and result, which is the win.
But, the coach added, “He’s had an awesome week. He understands what’s expected of him when you’re that talented, and you’re that good of a player, and he’s answered the call, which has been great to see.”
After having a three-game stretch where he was unstoppable, as Pickens totaled 144, 146, and 88 yards, his 37 receiving yards against the Lions were his lowest total since Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles (30).

In Detroit, it truly didn’t look like George was himself, with the effort on routes being questioned by the media.
Still, one bad game doesn’t make the player. … and after a season in which he followed his trader to Dallas from Pittsburgh by habitually embarrassing defenses, it needn’t be panic time.
We say don’t be surprised if Pickens shows the critics that last week was an aberration and torches the Minnesota Vikings’ defense on Sunday night in Arlington as the 6-6-1 Cowboys, favored by a TD, need a win. …
And need George Pickens.
