Hegewisch, Chicago fire today: Chicago Fire Department firefighter seriously injured near East 135th Street and South Avenue M

CHICAGO (WLS) — A Chicago firefighter was seriously injured while battling a fire on the city’s Far South Side on Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The Chicago Fire Department said firefighters responded to a fire at a home near East 135th Street and South Avenue M.

At one point, a firefighter went missing in the basement, and a mayday was called, CFD said.
CFD said that firefighter suffered a lower leg injury and was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in serious condition.

The fire is now under control, and no other injuries were reported.
CFD is investigating the cause of the fire.
