INGLEWOOD, Calif. – The up and down 2025 season for the Detroit Lions continued Sunday as they fell to the Los Angeles Rams, 41-34, on the road.
The loss drops the Lions to 8-6 on the season and a game and a half behind the Green Bay Packers for the last playoff spot in the NFC with three games to go. The Lions will likely have to win out to reach the playoffs.
Detroit held a 24-17 halftime lead, but Los Angeles scored 17 unanswered in the third quarter to push their lead to 34-24 heading into the fourth quarter. A Jake Bates 48-yard field goal midway through the fourth pulled the Lions to within one score, but the defense couldn’t come up with a stop as Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford found tight end Colby Parkinson for his second touchdown of the game to give Los Angeles a 41-27 lead. A David Montgomery 1-yard touchdown trimmed the Rams’ lead to one score but Detroit never got any closer.
The 41 points are the most allowed by the Lions this season as the Rams totaled 519 yards of offense, also the most allowed this season.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff threw three touchdown passes in the loss, all in the first half. Amon-Ra St. Brown was on the receiving end of two of those (17 & 8) and Jameson Williams had the other from 31 yards out late in the second quarter.
St. Brown finished with 13 receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Williams had seven catches for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Detroit’s first touchdown was set up by a 58-yard interception return by edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson to the Rams’ 17-yard line. It was the fifth interception of Hutchinson’s career, as he becomes the first defensive lineman to produce five interceptions through four career seasons in the Super Bowl era (since 1967).
