Oscar Wallin: Former Peterborough United defender retires at 24

Former Peterborough United defender Oscar Wallin has retired from football at the age of 24.

Wallin announced his retirement in Swedish newspaper Sundsvalls Tidning, just two months after the League One club terminated his contract by mutual consent.

The centre-back joined Posh from Swedish top-tier club Degerfors in the summer of 2024 and made 45 appearances for Posh, including last season’s EFL Trophy final win over Birmingham City at Wembley.

His final game came in Peterborough’s 2-0 defeat at Wigan on 16 August before telling then manager Darren Ferguson that he wanted to go home to continue his education.

“I have no desire any more. Technically, I could take it up again, but I have no desire for it at the moment,” he said.

“I have no interest in playing in Sweden either. I feel I want to do things I have sacrificed or neglected over the last 15 years because I have played football, so yes I have now stopped playing.

“‘I’ve really never planned anything in football. I just took it as it came, but I’ve known for a long time that I wouldn’t play until I’m 35.

“Now I’ve stopped at 24, but it could just as well have been 27 or 22.”
