IPL mini auction: RCB strengthen core; Jacob Duffy joins after Venkatesh Iyer deal

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have continued to fine-tune their squad with a key overseas addition. Soon after completing the signing of Venkatesh Iyer, the franchise brought in New Zealand fast bowler Jacob Duffy to add depth and strength to their bowling attack.
Duffy, currently ranked as the world’s No. 2 bowler in T20 cricket, represents New Zealand across all three formats. His T20 credentials are strong, having played 38 international matches and taken 53 wickets, making him a proven option in the shortest format.

The New Zealand pacer entered the auction with a base price of ₹2 crore. RCB moved quickly and secured him early in the bidding, underlining the franchise’s clear intent to lock in a reliable pace option. The move gains importance as Josh Hazlewood continues to deal with injury concerns, creating a need for a dependable replacement in the fast-bowling department.

By adding Duffy, RCB have significantly reinforced their bowling unit, ensuring better balance and flexibility in their playing combinations. His ability to deliver in pressure situations and adapt to T20 conditions adds value to the squad.
Earlier in the auction, RCB also strengthened their batting by acquiring Venkatesh Iyer for ₹7 crore. Known for his aggressive stroke play and ability to contribute in key moments, Iyer adds solidity and firepower to the middle order.
