NYC’s Katz’s Deli, known for ‘When Harry Met Sally,’ pays tribute to Rob Reiner

One of New York City’s most famous establishments is remembering Rob Reiner following the director’s tragic death.
Katz’s Delicatessen, where Reiner filmed the iconic fake orgasm scene in “When Harry Met Sally” over 30 years ago, posted an Instagram tribute to the director on Monday.
The dedication included two pictures of Reiner at the iconic Lower East Side deli, as well as a photo of a sign that reads, “Where Harry Met Sally… Hope You Have What She Had! Enjoy.”

“Remembering the great Rob Reiner on this tragic day,” the restaurant wrote in the caption. “Rob Reiner was a quintessential New Yorker and creative giant who brought Katz’s to millions of people by showing the magic of our store in his masterpiece ‘When Harry Met Sally.’”
“Forever changing Katz’s history with that simple line: ‘I’ll have what she’s having!’” the caption added. “Our hearts go out to his family. Sending infinite love. ❤️❤️❤️.”

The beloved rom-com features a scene at Katz’s Deli where Sally (Meg Ryan) is telling Harry (Billy Crystal) that his past lovers have likely faked orgasms with him. To prove it, she fakes one sitting across from him at lunch, bringing the deli to a standstill as everyone stares at her.
Reiner cast his mother, Estelle Reiner, as the woman sitting nearby, who delivers the famous punchline: “I’ll have what she’s having.”

Two months before his death, Reiner recalled how he awkwardly had to demonstrate the scene himself in front of his mother.
“I sat across from Billy. And I acted it for her.… And I’m pounding the table, ‘Yes! Yes! Yes!’ And I’m realizing I’m having an orgasm in front of my mother, you know? There’s my mother over there,” he said during an interview on “60 Minutes” in October.
After news of Reiner’s death broke, Katz’s Deli owner Jake Dell remembered the famous filmmaker while speaking to The Post.
“It hit all of us,” Dell, 39, said. “This morning, I was seeing some of the guys who work here crowding together. They were showing pictures on their phones, of him, to each other, telling stories.”

Customers at Katz’s Deli have also been mourning the loss of the Hollywood icon, who was allegedly slain by his troubled son Nick.
Pamela Blake Riley, who was visiting New York from Memphis with her husband, Don, and two children, told The Post that Katz’s felt “somber” due to the “disheartening situation.”
“We were shocked to hear about him and his wife. The son had to be mentally ill or on drugs or something is broken inside him to do something like that,” Riley said.
Josh Belson, a tourist from Los Angeles visiting the spot for the first time, said he wanted to give Reiner “a big hug.”

“He really made this place famous,” said Belson. “He touched so many people and made so many lives better with his humor in his craft. He did bring joy to hundreds of millions. I’ve been wanting to come here ever since I saw ‘When Harry Met Sally.’”
Reiner, 78, and his 68-year-old wife, Michele, were found with their throats slit inside their Los Angeles home on Sunday. Their bodies were discovered by their 28-year-old daughter, Romy.
The pair shared son Jake, 34, too. The director was also dad to actress Tracy Reiner, whom he adopted when married to the late Penny Marshall.
The couple’s 32-year-old son Nick, who has a history of addiction, has been arrested and charged with the murders. He’s being held without bail.
