Packers coach Matt LaFleur implies RB MarShawn Lloyd will remain on IR, miss rest of 2025

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur all but confirmed that running back MarShawn Lloyd, who injured his hamstring at practice last week while designated for return from injured reserve, will remain on injured reserve and miss the rest of the 2025 season.
Lloyd, a 2024 third-round pick, would need to be activated to the 53-man roster by next Monday to play this season.
“It’s one of those things that’s very, very, very unfortunate, because this guy has worked his ass off to battle back and to be in that spot again, what do you say to him?” LaFleur said Tuesday. “We’ll continue to investigate and try to figure out why this keeps occurring, but it’s certainly unfortunate. I feel bad, I really do, I feel extremely bad for MarShawn.”
The Packers had listed Lloyd on the injury report with a calf injury while in his 21-day practice window. He added the hamstring injury on Friday, didn’t practice and was ruled out for Week 15.
While LaFleur didn’t expressly say so, he strongly implied Lloyd’s season is over.
“I’m not going to say no, but I think you can use deductive reasoning on that one,” LaFleur said.
Lloyd has played in one regular season game during his first two NFL seasons. After an injury plagued rookie season that included multiple soft tissue injuries and an appendectomy, Lloyd injured his calf to start training camp in August and then injured his hamstring during his preseason debut in Indianapolis. He began the season on injured reserve and later opened his 21-day practice window on Monday, Dec. 1.
Lloyd and the Packers will now have to wait until 2026 for any kind of impact from the 88th overall pick in the 2024 draft.
Without Lloyd to end the season, the Packers will continue forward with Josh Jacobs — who is battling through a knee injury — and backups Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks at running back. Pierre Strong Jr., who is on the practice squad, is out of elevations and would need to be signed to the 53-man roster to play in a game for the Packers to end the season.
