WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Ottawa won the first-ever matchup against Vancouver, 5-1, on Nov. 26. The Charge outshot the Goldeneyes in every period, including a 12-4 advantage in the opening frame. It’s one of two games this season where Ottawa has outshot their opponent, and one of four games where Vancouver has been outshot.
The Charge have had all four of their games decided by multiple goals this season. That is tied for the second-longest streak for Ottawa all-time (Jan. 27 to Feb. 13, 2025, with a 1-0-0-3 record), behind a five-game run from Feb. 19 to Mar. 2, 2024, with a 2-0-0-3 record. Boston and Montréal are the only other teams without a one-goal decision so far this season.
Fanuza Kadirova scored her first career PWHL goal just a minute and 45 seconds into the game against Toronto. That was the second fastest goal into a game by any Charge player all-time, behind Shiann Darkangelo’s goal 45 seconds into the game on Apr. 2, 2025. Ottawa has scored the game’s first goal twice this season, while Vancouver has just one first goal.
Kathryn Reilly is the only Charge player with a positive differential this season (+1). The rookie defender from Richmond, BC, will be playing in front of family and friends for the first time at Pacific Coliseum, including a large group of fellow students from UBC where she is studying medicine.
Kendra Woodland, who hails from Kamloops, BC, has also never played at Pacific Coliseum but did spend a night sleeping over at the former Vancouver Canucks home as part of a Girl Guides summer camp experience. The goalkeeper slept in between a row of benches where fans usually put their feet.
Four of Ottawa’s top seven returning scorers are still looking for their first points of the season including forwards Emily Clark and Kateřina Mrázová, and defenders Ronja Savolainen and Jocelyne Larocque. Clark has never gone five games without a point in her PWHL career and leads the team with 17 shots.
Ottawa players will debut pink ribbon helmet stickers tonight in support of Head Coach Carla MacLeod and her battle with breast cancer.
Vancouver shut out New York in their last game, 4-0, scoring three goals in the first period. That is the most for the Goldeneyes and tied for second most by any PWHL team in a single period this season, behind the Sirens’ four goals in the third period on Nov. 22 against the Charge.
The Goldeneyes can become the first team in PWHL history to win the first three home games of their inaugural season. Only Minnesota won its first two home games in 2024.
Abby Boreen has scored in both of Vancouver’s home games, including two goals in her last game against the Sirens, her second career PWHL multi-goal game (Jan. 17, 2025). She now has at least three career goals for three different PWHL teams (also Minnesota and Montréal), the most in PWHL history.
Ashton Bell had her first goal of the season come against New York, making her the third different defender to record a goal for the Goldeneyes this season. Joining Claire Thompson (2) and Sophie Jaques (1), that is the most such players by any PWHL team this season, with Montréal and New York next up at two each.
Jenn Gardiner became the first player from BC to score a PWHL goal in her home province with the team’s first-ever shorthanded ‘jailbreak’ goal against New York. The Surrey native has scored four of her six career goals on special teams, including three power play tallies last season with the Victoire.
Emerance Maschmeyer stopped all 28 shots against New York to record Vancouver’s first-ever shutout. Her 30 saves against Ottawa on Nov. 26 remain a season-high and was the first time facing former teammate Gwyneth Philips, who earned her only win in four starts with a season-low 18 saves.
Three of Canada’s five goals in two Rivalry Series games against the U.S. last week in Edmonton were scored by players in tonight’s game, including two from Jaques in Wednesday’s 10-4 loss and one by Charge captain Brianne Jenner, assisted by Gardiner, in Saturday’s 4-1 loss.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“Our last game against Vancouver, we were relentless. It was the best forecheck that I’ve seen us play with and we have that mentally coming in the next game. We must work to get above pucks. I think that’s hard to play against, and our defenders were doing the same thing in closing in on pucks quickly in the defensive zone. We’ve got to come up with that kind of energy from the puck drop tonight.” – Charge Captain Brianne Jenner
“We’re excited to have Ottawa in our barn and to come off this break and get a couple wins here at home. We had a great group back here during the international break so we were able to hone in on some details and some structure and put in some work this past week, and we know the girls that were at the Rivalry Series are doing all they can too, and just getting rested and ready for tonight. We’re excited.” – Goldeneyes Captain Ashton Bell
TUESDAY’S GAME: The PWHL’s first game following December’s International Break launches the busiest week of the 2025-26 season with nine games being played across the league through Sunday, including two games at Pacific Coliseum against Canadian opponents as Vancouver welcomes Ottawa tonight and Montréal on Saturday, both for the first time. It’s a celebration of Women in Uniform tonight, featuring a special ceremonial puck drop with senior ranking members from the Vancouver Police Department, Canadian Armed Forces and Surrey Fire Fighters, and a national anthem performance by a member of the RCMP. Individuals from numerous public service departments will be recognized throughout the game. The first 6,000 fans in attendance will receive a Goldeneyes Inaugural Season Mini Banner presented by SharkNinja, while quantities last.
