Glendale police and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad search apartment, tow yard after man’s arrest

GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) — Police surrounded an apartment in Glendale on Tuesday afternoon after another police investigation in the neighborhood sparked a response from the bomb squad.
The law enforcement activity unfolded at an apartment complex along Los Feliz Road at Gardena Avenue. Glendale police were reportedly serving a search warrant. The scene cleared shortly after 4:30 p.m.
The operation followed an investigation that began Monday night, where a man was taken into custody during a traffic stop around 8 p.m. in the 3000 block of W. Los Feliz Boulevard. Police did not provide further details, but did note that the man was taken into custody “on outstanding warrants.”
The suspect’s car was taken to a tow yard at Flower Street and Sonora Avenue, and an investigation into the vehicle on Tuesday sparked a search involving the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad.
The tow yard and surrounding area were evacuated as the bomb squad thoroughly checked the vehicle. The all-clear was eventually given, and the bomb squad was moved to the scene on Los Feliz Boulevard, Glendale police said.
Glendale police confirmed that they executed a search warrant at an apartment connected to the tow yard investigation around noon on Tuesday.
They said the search was a follow-up on suspicious items found during the search of the vehicle at the tow yard.
Eyewitness News spoke to some of the residents at the apartment complex who said they woke up to a knock on the door from police officers, telling them they needed to get out of their apartment due to some sort of bomb scare and investigation.
Glendale police did not say if they found anything concerning inside the apartment building. They also did not say if anyone else was taken into custody during the two search warrants on Tuesday.
Glendale police told Eyewitness News that the investigation is not connected to the Turtle Island Liberation Front terror investigation. A spokesperson with the FBI said that some of their agents were assisting with the investigation.
