2 men charged in connection with toddler’s death in South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Two men have been charged in connection with the alleged beating death of a 2-year-old girl in South Philadelphia.

Raafi Gorham, 21, has been charged with homicide. Anthony Lowrie, 21, has been charged with lying to police about the case.

Family of Key’Monnie Bean says she loved dancing, her unicorn blanket, and playing with her big sister. She always gave hugs and kisses to her family.

The toddler was killed last week. Sources tell Action News she was found severely beaten in a home.

Surveillance video from the 2100 block of South Beechwood Street shows SWAT officers arresting a man inside a house on the block on Wednesday morning.

Philadelphia police were called to the same home on December 8. Sources say Key’Monnie had been at the home and was transported to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was pronounced dead.

Two men are in custody in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl in South Philadelphia.

The girl’s father, TaShaun Walls, shared videos with Action News as he grapples with the loss of his little girl. He spoke to us through FaceTime.

“She was like everybody’s favorite because of how she was. She was just always loving. She always wanted to hug, play around,” he said.

The child’s mother has custody, but Walls usually visits with her weekly. He got the news last week that Key’Monnie had been killed.

“Never ever got in trouble. She was really a good girl. I’m still mind blown on the incident and everything else,” said Walls.

We also spoke to family on Key’Monnie’s mother’s side, who did not want to go on camera, but said, “Our hearts are heavy. We want to give a special thank you to the Philadelphia Police Department for acting as quickly as they did.”

The homicide unit is handling the case.

The circumstances surrounding the girl’s death remain under investigation.
