Detroit Lions HC Dan Campbell ‘hopeful’ OL Christian Mahogany can return for Lions-Steelers

GETTING MONTGOMERY MORE INVOLVED
Jahmyr Gibbs is one of the most explosive players at the running back position in the NFL with the ability to score from anywhere on the field every time he touches the football. It’s hard not to give talent like that the football as much as a team can.
But Detroit’s run game has been one of the best in the NFL the last three seasons because it’s been a two-headed monster complemented by veteran David Montgomery.
Montgomery got double-digit carries in seven of Detroit’s first nine games but hasn’t reached at least 10 rushing attempts in any of the team’s last five contests, three of which have been losses. Montgomery carried the ball just seven times last week against the Rams, including a 1-yard touchdown run on a direct snap.
Campbell said Wednesday he’s looking to get Montgomery more involved down the stretch.
“Every good player wants their chance to help the team win and get some production, so I know it can’t be easy,” Campbell said of Montgomery’s limited touches of late. “I know it’s not easy, but he’s a pro. He handles his business and goes about it, and whenever you call his number, he’s ready to go.
“It is something I think about a lot, is how do we get them all involved? He’s one of those, when they’re all involved, we’re just better. We’re a better offense. Where do we get him touches? Where do we find them? So, I do. I think about him a lot.”
