FIRST ALERT DAY: Whiteout conditions, difficult travel expected Thursday evening

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Whiteout conditions and difficult to dangerous travel are expected across southern Minnesota and northern Iowa Thursday afternoon and evening. Please use extreme caution during the evening commute, especially outside of city limits, in open and rural areas. Be safe!

Blizzard Warning until 10 pm and Winter Weather Advisory until 9 pm(KTTC)

The NWS has issued a Blizzard Warning for portions of SE Minn. and northern Iowa, highlighted in orange, until 10 pm Thursday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9 pm Thursday for the counties highlighted in purple.

Wind Advisory until midnight(KTTC)

There is also a Wind Advisory in effect until midnight for the counties highlighted in tan.

Wind gusts of 35 mph to upwards of 50 mph are possible across our area this afternoon and evening.

Conditions will become less windy and feature more sunshine heading into the weekend with highs in the 20s. Temperatures are looking mild in the 30s for Christmas this year.
