India vs South Africa 5th T20I, Live Cricket Score: SA 0/0, Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks start run chase

India (IND) vs South Africa (SA) 5th T20 Live Cricket Score Updates: Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma sent the ball to all parts of the ground in Ahmedabad and helped India set up a score of 231/5 batting first against South Africa in the fifth T20I. Pandya came in when Suryakumar Yadav fell for yet another low score and made that wicket a distant memory for South Africa. He creamed as many as 32 runs off the first eight balls he faced. Tilak Varma, meanwhile, continued his good form at the other end and eased past yet another half-century. Shortly after Tilak’s milestone, Pandya raced past 50 in just 16 balls, the second fastest half-century by an Indian in men’s T20Is.

South African skipper Aiden Markam earlier won the toss and opted to bowl first against Suryakumar Yadav’s India on the final T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. The hosts have the lead 2-1 in the series, and the previous game at Lucknow got abandoned due to poor weather conditions.

Although winning has not been an issue for this side under Suryakumar Yadav, the performances of a few players and the combinations with which the team wants to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup in february is still under the clouds. The form of the skipper himself has been quite ordinary, given the high standards he has set for himself.

India vs South Africa: Why Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav all cannot be in the same eleven

The quartet could still make the cut at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the final T20I on Friday, but will that be the uniform code thereafter when India aim to defend the T20 crown in the sub-continent? (CREIMAS for BCCI)

A dense blanket of fog at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium forced the abandonment of the fourth T20I between India and South Africa, denying fans the highly anticipated “unveiling” of India’s elite bowling quartet—Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakaravarthy—in the same playing XI for the first time. With India leading the series 2-1, the washout prevented the tactical experiment of pairing two premier pacers with two world-class spinners against the Proteas. Consequently, the series remains undecided as the teams head to Ahmedabad for the fifth and final match. (Read more from Lalith Kalidas)
