Masked Singer host Joel Dommett told off by show bosses after letting slip name of Christmas celeb

The Masked Singer presenter Joel Dommett has been at the centre of a slip-up in the show’s Boxing Day special.
Airing later this month, the festive episode will see celebrities disguised as Christmassy characters with creative names, such as Santa’s Sack, Goose A-Laying, Figgy Pudding and Mistletoe.
When chatting with Mistletoe, Dommett made an unbelievable faux pas for someone who’s hosted the show for six years.
When Dommett heard Mistletoe’s recognisable chuckle, he named them out loud without even thinking.
“I can’t believe I did it,” he told The Sun.

“This person was chuckling in the costume and it’s a chuckle I know well and I said their name. It just came out. Their actual name!”
Dommett realised the rookie mistake too late, revealing his slip-up got him into trouble with the show’s producers.
“Thankfully, [the judges] had pretty much guessed who it was. But producers did reiterate to me that I wasn’t to do that again. I was on the naughty step,” he said.
Dommett didn’t reveal Mistletoe’s identity, leaving viewers to find out themselves when the show airs next week – where the entire incident will be shown.

The presenter is no stranger to an awkward incidents. Earlier this year, he looked back on one embarrassing encounter he had with judge Maya Jama right after she joined The Masked Singer.
The Love Island host currently sits on the judging panel alongside Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan.
During the taping of the show, Dommett, who admittedly is “really bad” at celebrity gossip, kept singing a Stormzy song – unaware that Jama and the rapper had recently called time on their relationship.
“I remember, during the recording, I kept on singing a Stormzy song and then I felt really bad about it,” Dommett told The Sun.
“I’ve got this song in my head, I can’t stop singing it, then someone sort of dragged me aside and said, ‘That’s someone that just broke up’.”
Despite feeling like “the worst human being ever”, Joel said that Maya was a good sport about it and “just laughed it off”.
The Masked Singer airs its Christmas special on Boxing Day at 7.30pm on ITV1. A new season of The Masked Singer UK will then start on 3 January 2026.
