There’s a new way to experience Puerto Rico’s beach capital of Isla Verde. Hyatt has officially opened its first Hyatt Centric–branded hotel in Puerto Rico, bringing the lifestyle-focused flag to Isla Verde with the debut of Hyatt Centric San Juan Isla Verde. The opening follows a $30 million transformation of the former Verdanza Hotel and marks another step in the brand’s expanding Caribbean footprint.
Set in the heart of Isla Verde, the hotel sits within walking distance of the neighborhood’s beach, restaurants, nightlife, and shopping, with Old San Juan, El Yunque National Rain Forest, the convention district, and the island’s financial center all within easy reach. The location is just minutes from the main international airport, positioning the property squarely for both leisure and business travelers.
It’s one of two upper-tier Hyatt-branded resorts on the island now, along with the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve which is in Rio Grande (and is one of the island’s top golf resorts, too).
A Ground-Up Reinvention In Isla Verde
The newly renovated hotel has 223 guest rooms and suites with city and partial ocean views, the hotel says were designed to reflect Puerto Rico’s natural landscape. Interiors draw from the colors and textures of the Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, coral formations, and mountain terrain, blending contemporary design with locally inspired details. The renovation was led by a team that included V Architecture, 3MG, Baskerville, and landscape architect EDSA, according to Hyatt.
What do you get? A resort-style pool deck with a jacuzzi and open-air restaurant and bar, a 24-hour fitness center, a kid-friendly splash pad, and pet-friendly accommodations with dedicated amenities. The hotel also offers more than sixteen thousand square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, including a rooftop terrace with ocean views designed for corporate gatherings, social events, and creative meetings.
Private Beach Club Access At Vivo Beach Club
A defining feature of the opening is complimentary access and shuttle service for guests to Vivo Beach Club, an oceanfront private beach club integrated into the hotel experience. The club features three pools, four restaurants and bars, the Ocean Lab Brewing Company microbrewery, and an outdoor concert stage with capacity for thirty-five hundred people, one of the island’s leading live music venues.
Developers Interlink and Vivo Beach Club describe the project as a locally driven transformation that blends design, gastronomy, entertainment, and beachfront access into a single concept, positioning the hotel as a new landmark for Isla Verde and a catalyst for continued tourism and economic growth.
Dining And Culinary Direction
Hyatt Centric San Juan Isla Verde is home to two food and beverage concepts. First, you get Alba, a full-service restaurant inspired by Puerto Rican flavors, serving breakfast through evening dining. Espresso Lab offers a coffee-focused experience featuring local favorites and artisanal selections. The culinary program is overseen by Puerto Rican chef Efraín Cruz, who serves as executive chef for the hotel’s restaurants, events, and banquets.
Hyatt’s Growing Presence In Puerto Rico
The opening brings Hyatt’s portfolio in Puerto Rico to six hotels, joining Hyatt Place San Juan, Hyatt House San Juan, Hyatt Place Bayamón, Hyatt Place Manatí, and Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico. The property is managed by Highgate Hotels, which oversees multiple hotels across the island as part of its global portfolio and has been deepening its Caribbean footprint in the last few years.
