Pain ointment Mamisan Pain Ointment pulled from shelves due to risk to young children

A pain ointment is being recalled due to dangers to children. Mamisan Pain Relieving Topical Ointment could be life-threatening for children, if they swallowed its packaging, federal officials say.
Plantimex Distributors is recalling about 50,000 containers of the popular product after the ointment container’s lid failed child-resistent safety requirements, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
“Consumers should immediately secure the recalled ointment jars out of the sight and reach of children and contact Plantimex to receive a free replacement lid. Once the product is secured with the replacement lid, consumers can use the product, as directed,” the agency stated on its website.
The product has a numbing agent called lidocaine that must be sold in packaging safe for children. The ointment comes in bright orange jars which have a twist off lid. They were sold at Walmart and Target nationwide, in addition to Target.com, between April of 2024 and October of this year. Only jars with the UPC code 860006498115 are recalled.
Officials say the jars should be taken out of the reach of children immediately. Customers who purchased the ointment can contact the company for a replacement lid by phone at 855-752-6869 or by email at [email protected] with the “subject recall”.
