Bicyclist killed in hit-and-run crash in West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A bicyclist was killed early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle in West Philadelphia, police said.
The crash happened around 3:44 a.m. at the intersection of North 56th Street and Lancaster Avenue.
According to investigators, both the bicyclist and the vehicle, described as a red SUV possibly a Jeep Cherokee, were traveling westbound on Lancaster Avenue when the collision occurred.
Police say the bicyclist, a 54-year-old man, began to make a left turn onto North 56th Street when he was hit by the SUV.
After the impact, the driver appeared to swerve and continued westbound on Lancaster Avenue without stopping.
Medics transported the victim to Lankenau Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 5 a.m.
The Crash Investigation Division is handling the case.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
