Iowa National Guard soldiers wounded in Syria attack return to United States

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa National Guard said two of the three soldiers injured in the December 13th Syria attack have returned to the United States.

Officials said they arrived Saturday and are in stable condition.

The third soldier was treated locally and returned to duty.

In a statement, Major General Stephen Osoborn said, “Caring for our impacted families and the safe return of our service members is our highest priority. We are incredibly proud of their courage and sacrifice, and our focus is now on providing them and their families with the comprehensive support they need during this time. We ask that all Iowans keep them in their thoughts and prayers as they recover.”

The National Guard said the soldiers will continue to receive medical treatment at a dedicated military facility.

It said the names of the service members are continuing to be withheld to protect their privacy during recovery.
