Woman killed in garbage truck hit-and-run into apartment building scaffolding in East Harlem

EAST HARLEM, New York (WABC) — A garbage truck crashed through scaffolding surrounding an East Harlem apartment building Tuesday morning, killing a woman.
According to police, the driver of the private sanitation truck lost control and careened into the scaffolding on First Avenue at East 101st Street.
The scaffolding then collapsed and struck a woman who was standing beneath it. She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
The garbage truck driver ran away from the scene.
His 50-year-old passenger was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Three others suffered minor injuries.
So far there are no arrests.
The buildings department responded to evaluate the condition of the apartment.
